Online Home Business #8 – Daily Information Website
Finally, we reach to the last online home business model series that we have discussed in this blog which is making money by providing daily information, daily tips and news. The exact examples of this business model are online news (ie. www.cnn.com, news.bbc.co.uk), online newspaper (i.e Washington Post at www.washingtonpost.com, New York Times at www.nytimes.com ), or daily tips (i.e www.brainyquote.com).
Nowadays, most internet users are shunning traditional forms of media and using internet news sites for information. The use of online news sites has been extremely popular due to the following reasons:
- Getting the news first is important to users. Most of the news available on the internet is free. However consumers are not aware of the hidden costs involved and whether most news is regurgitated or plagiarized.
- The average internet user is able to keep up with the news on the internet, without the hassle of having to buy a newspaper, turn on the television, or the radio.
- It is the most convenient way an Internet user can get his/her news on the Internet.
Most of the major news organizations have online versions of their news on the Internet. The Washington Post and the New York Times has articles from their newspaper online. The ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) radio has transcripts of their radio bulletins online and Channel Nine of Australia has collaborated with MSN to jointly put up articles on the web.
These are just some examples on how the news which internet users read online, are mostly from media companies which have already had their hand in the production of other forms of more traditional media before venturing onto the Internet.
Yet, with this in mind, it is not surprising that much of the information that an internet user reads from online news sites is mainly recycled information from these media organizations.
Those with the resources to produce their news segments in other forms of media, would also have the resources to run an online news site. The Washington Post has started charging for their articles to be read online, so that they can garner some revenue from their Internet media business, whilst the New York Times require their readers to register before they are permitted to read their articles.
Of course, you will need back up resources to provide fresh news for your online news sites that can compete with those established media sites. However, you can start a daily information website in a less expensive way by compiling the fresh news from various important sources everyday. Pick a niche of your news site to focus. That will make your site different than other news sites. Another option is providing daily tips, quotes, jokes, thoughts etc. ( i.e www.motivation123.com, www.quotationspage.com).
You can find the list of top online newspaper sites at http://www.onlinenewspapers.com
The monetization features of these news sites are similar to other online business model. You can apply all internet marketing techniques as mentioned in previous posts in a news site and can profit from it.
Now, you can pick and focus one of the online business models we discuss here and start making money online. Good luck with your online home business!
